    Carolyn Cruso
    Multi-instrumentalist Carolyn Cruso moves gracefully between the various instruments she plays (hammered dulcimer, flute, guitar and voice), taking you on a magical journey of lyrical song, instrumental music, and storytelling.     The Model T Ford Club of America has decreed 2008 as the 100th year commemoration of the introduction of the first Model T. Although the first model year for the T was 1909, assembly actually began in September of 1908. An event in Indiana is being billed as the site of a voluntary “recall” for all Model Ts still in existence this July at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Richmond, Ind.

    Douglas Electric Co-op to Hold 68th Annual Meeting

    Douglas Electric Cooperative members will hold their Annual Meeting Saturday, April 5 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Activities and registration will begin in Douglas Hall at 8:30 a.m., followed by the business meeting at 10:30 a.m. Election of board members for districts 3, 4 and 5 will also take place at the meeting.
    Exhibits and displays will include Douglas FastNet, South Stephens Appliance, Douglas Electric’s Safety Board, Certified Arborist Dave Alsen, Yoncalla Crafts, energy conservation and program information. Don Fisher and Janel Hahn will provide the music and a free luncheon will be prepared by members of the Lookingglass Grange. Door prize drawings will be held at the beginning and immediately following the business part of the meeting.
    Douglas Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility currently serving over 9,500 residential, commercial and industrial customers in northwest Douglas County. They have been in business since 1939.

    Oakland Hosts Tea Party

    You are Invited to Attend Spring Afternoon Tea in Historic Oakland
    On April 19 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. the second floor of the Historic Washington School in Oakland will transform into a Victorian Tea Room for your pleasure and enjoyment.
    The traditional Afternoon Tea menu includes finger sandwich savories, scones with Devonshire cream and jam, lavender sorbet, other delightful dessert treats and teas to compliment the edibles.
    Vintage fashions will be modeled and entertainment will include Victorian music presented by the Oakland Community Chorus.
    Tickets are $15.00 and sold in advance through Oakland City Hall. For reservations and ticket information call 459-4531 or 459-9504.
    The location in Historic Oakland is the restored Washington School at 637 N E Locust Street and it is wheelchair accessible. Proceeds benefi t the Roof Fund for this venerable old building.

    Incredible Infants

    Enrollment in the Incredible Infant class has been expanded to include infants up to 6 months of age!
    This program is presented by Options Counseling in cooperation with the Douglas County Early Childhood Planning Coalition -- and is the first of it’s kind in our area!
    The 10 week series beginning April 7 is for families of infants up to 6 months of age at the time of enrollment and babies att end class with mom and dad. The class activities are designed to increase parental nurturing skills and knowledge base about baby’s development and individuality. Parents will learn the importance of play, how to encourage and enhance baby’s development, learn to nurture themselves, how to adjust to life as a new parent, and most importantly -- meet other parents and share the joy and experience of parenthood!
    The class will meet at Redeemers Fellowship (3031 W. Harvard Ave.) every Monday morning from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm beginning April 7 (no class May 26). The program is absolutely free!

    Your recipes can help celebrate OR150

    The Douglas County Oregon 150 Committ ee is building a cookbook to tell the story of Douglas County through historical photos and recipes. The book will also feature home remedies and food preservation tips that have been used by Douglas County residents in their daily lives throughout the last 150 years. If you have such a recipe, remedy or tip, or a family favorite that has an interesting story behind it, or just a recipe that is too good to be left out of the book, please send it to the Oregon 150 Committee either by email to: DouglasCounty- Oregon150@gmail.com, or by regular envelope-and-stamp mail to P.O. Box 249, Glide, OR 97443. The book will be available this coming Christmas season and the proceeds will help fund Douglas County’s celebration of the Oregon Sesquicentennial in September 2009.

    Stretch and Tone at two locations

    Roseburg-- Enroll in the Umpqua Community College Community Education class “Stretch and Tone.” The class will be on Mondays and Wednesday, April 1 through May 29, 8-9 a.m. at the Winston Community Center and also on Mondays and Wednesdays, April 7 thru June 11, 6-7 p.m., in Riddle at the Riddle Community Center.      Learn a variety of exercise/ yoga routines which will enhance fl exibility, improve balance, and tone your muscles.     Moonglow Joe

    Just wanted to let you know that some friends and I will be picking on SAT. April 5 from 7-10 PM at Murphy’s House of Brews in Roseburg. This is the first time that Murphy’s has scheduled music on a Sat. night so we hope folks come out to support it and make it a regular event. We might do a couple numbers off the new album.     Estate Sale

    The Yoncalla beautifi cation project committee will hold an estate sale at the Yoncalla Community Center on Saturday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    A wide variety of items will be offered at the sale from the estate of Wilma Lacy, long time resident of Yoncalla.

    Practical Accounting Basics

    Roseburg-- Enroll in the Umpqua Community College Community Education class “Practical Accounting Basics.” The class will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 1-May 29, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at South Umpqua High School, Room 5.     This non-credit class is an introduction to bookkeeping and accounting principles. The instructor holds bachelor’s degree in accounting and has worked in the field for more that 20 years.
