At the end of the work day when I am tired and want to go home to my quite house and comfortable chair I sometimes hesitate at the thought of Special Olympics practice and the work involved. But When I get there and put on my smile and begin to work during warm ups I quickly forget about why I didn’t want to come and am elated and reenergized by the athletes and partners.

Four Reasons Golfers Aren't Improving

Golfers have seen many improvements that should help them to play better golf. Technological advancements have resulted in golf balls and golf clubs that produce longer, straighter, and more consistent shots. Advancements in maintenance equipment and agronomy have made for much smoother and more consistent playing surfaces. There is an abundance of information now available to help golfers improve. There are hundreds of books, DVDs, magazines, websites, blogs, and even an entire golf television channel. There are sophisticated computers that can analyze golfers swings as well as fitting them for the best equipment. With all those advances, golfers should be improving, but they are not. In fact, according to handicap records, the average handicap has remained virtually unchanged for the past couple of decades. How is that possible?

What a ride these young ladies have had! Starting back 2006/2007 season, they welcomed a new coach to the team, Mr. Grotting ,also known as “GROTT” to the girls. They took instruction like never before. Running became the number one force with the team. Working hard during practice was a huge step, with blood sweat and tears they would think practice was over , then the running would start.
What's the Story with the Dimples on a Golf Ball

As a golf ball engineer, I have fielded scores of questions from golfers all over the world. One of the most common relates to golf ball dimples, their function, and whether or not all the different dimple patterns are “just about marketing”. Let’s take a look:
Ever since 150 years ago when golfers found that the then modern gutta percha balls flied longer and straighter when their smooth surfaces were roughened up and nicked, the fascination with dimples began. Today, we know that dimples serve to reduce the aerodynamic drag acting on the surface of the golf ball, ultimately resulting in longer distance. combined with the backspin imparted by the golf club, today’s ball flight characteristics are nothing short of spectacular!
Over the years, the patterns have changed and evolved into some very dynamic looking designs: multi-sized dimples on the same ball, dimples in dimples, and deep and shallow dimples. These changes have been aided by all the improvements in the ball flight/trajectory and distance measuring technology.
