The Mother's Day Breakfast is a service project that the Sutherlin Lions Club has been doing for over 30 years to recognize and honor Mothers.

"PremierWest Bank helps us with a generous donation, Priceless gives a discounted price on supplies, and Umpqua Dairy donates some dairy products," member Richard Smith said. "We really appreciate the support of local businesses for this project to honor the importance and value of Mothers in our community."

"If we are fortunate to make a net profit, the money goes to help vision and hearing impaired citizens, including children, of Sutherlin who need financial assistance. It also supports our student Scholarship Fund for High School Seniors. We do not have all of the expenses determined yet so it is not known if we have a net profit or not.

"One hundred seventy eight people, age 6 and over, were served, with about 100 of them being mothers," Richard added.

Jimmy Martin brought his fiancé, Tanya Joh

nson, and his future mother-in-law, Suse Johnson, to the breakfast. "It was His idea to bring us," said Suse. Jimmy did chores for Suse in honor of Mother’s Day, "He’s the best lawn man in town," Suse said.

The Russell/Olsen family have been coming to the Lions Club Mother’s Day breakfast for years. "We miss Mr. Mongiovi making coffee," Doris Russell said. When asked what Dianne wanted for Mother’s Day, she said, "Hopefully my husband is cooking! My mother (Doris) and I are going shopping." Trent, four AND A HALF, said, "I give my mom everything she wants." Busy mom Tameka said, "I’m going to get a hammock so that I can lounge around and read." It seemed as if she were trying to convince herself that she would have time to do that.

Lorena Christianson, husband Robert and their four kids Albert, 8, Heidi, 6, Chaylee, 3, and Dimitrik, 1, have made the Lions Club Breakfast a tradition since 2001. Robert said, "I don’t make any plans for her, she can just lounge around." From the children, Lorena got a bookmark, a marigold with a picture in it and a ton of adoration.
