Since February of 2008, the DINT had been receiving information that Scott Wiley, 40, has been involved in dealing substantial quantities of methamphetamine. Wiley also possessed a State of Oregon Parole Board Felony Warrant for his arrest, for Absconding. On the evening of March 27, 2008, DINT Investigators conducted surveillance of Wiley, when they observed him driving erratically on Edenbower Boulevard,
The DINT Investigators requested assistance from Roseburg Police Department to stop the vehicle. Wiley turned onto Broad Street from Edenbower, then onto Amanda Street and then onto Serena Way. During this time, the passenger in the vehicle was observed by the police throwing items fron the vehicle. Because of the high rate of speed that Wiley was driving, the police units were unable to overtake him, until after he crashed the vehicle on the front lawn of a residence located along Serena Way. Wiley and his passenger then fl ed from the scene on foot.
The passenger Stanton Mc- Speritt , 37, was captured by the police after a short foot pursuit. Wiley was captured a short time later by the police, after an extended foot pursuit, and deployment of a Tazer. Wiley was treated for minor injuries at the scene by ambulance. A search of the area where McSperitt was observed throwing items from the vehicle-resulted in the recovery of several individual bags containing methamphetamine.
Both Stanton McSperitt and Scott Wiley were taken to the Douglas County Jail, where they were lodged on various charges related to the incident. As of Monday both McSperitt and Wiley are in custody.
