Twenty years ago Douglas High School was the recipient of the windfall that came with the creation of the Roseburg Antique Show. Now, Umpqua Valley Christian School receives the monies raised.

Spring Fair, Spring Fling

The show is over! The Spring Fair just completed it’s 33rd annual gathering of artists, crafters, musicians & entertainers from all over the Northwest. Put on by the Inner Space Family, this is more a gathering of old friends and new testing the response to wares offered for sale in the coming year.

Model T Ford Club

The Model T Ford Club of America has decreed 2008 as the 100th year commemoration of the introduction of the first Model T. Although the first model year for the T was 1909, assembly actually began in September of 1908. An event in Indiana is being billed as the site of a voluntary “recall” for all Model Ts still in existence this July at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Richmond, Ind.

Douglas Electric Co-op to Hold 68th Annual Meeting

Douglas Electric Cooperative members will hold their Annual Meeting Saturday, April 5 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Activities and registration will begin in Douglas Hall at 8:30 a.m., followed by the business meeting at 10:30 a.m. Election of board members for districts 3, 4 and 5 will also take place at the meeting.
Exhibits and displays will include Douglas FastNet, South Stephens Appliance, Douglas Electric’s Safety Board, Certified Arborist Dave Alsen, Yoncalla Crafts, energy conservation and program information. Don Fisher and Janel Hahn will provide the music and a free luncheon will be prepared by members of the Lookingglass Grange. Door prize drawings will be held at the beginning and immediately following the business part of the meeting.
Douglas Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility currently serving over 9,500 residential, commercial and industrial customers in northwest Douglas County. They have been in business since 1939.

Oakland Hosts Tea Party

You are Invited to Attend Spring Afternoon Tea in Historic Oakland
On April 19 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. the second floor of the Historic Washington School in Oakland will transform into a Victorian Tea Room for your pleasure and enjoyment.
The traditional Afternoon Tea menu includes finger sandwich savories, scones with Devonshire cream and jam, lavender sorbet, other delightful dessert treats and teas to compliment the edibles.
Vintage fashions will be modeled and entertainment will include Victorian music presented by the Oakland Community Chorus.
Tickets are $15.00 and sold in advance through Oakland City Hall. For reservations and ticket information call 459-4531 or 459-9504.
The location in Historic Oakland is the restored Washington School at 637 N E Locust Street and it is wheelchair accessible. Proceeds benefi t the Roof Fund for this venerable old building.

At the end of the work day when I am tired and want to go home to my quite house and comfortable chair I sometimes hesitate at the thought of Special Olympics practice and the work involved. But When I get there and put on my smile and begin to work during warm ups I quickly forget about why I didn’t want to come and am elated and reenergized by the athletes and partners.
