The AARP tax program In Coquille for another four weeks

The AARP Tax Help program will be completing your taxes at Holy Name Catholic Church, 50 N. Dean Street in Coquille. We will be open on Tuesday March 24 and 31, and April 4 and 14 from 12 PM to 3 PM. We will also be open on Saturday April 4 from 10 AM to noon to accommodate people who can not come in on Tuesdays.
The AARP Tax program is free of charge for all. To use the service bring your Social Security Number, Photo ID, last years tax return and all 2008 tax information (wage and interest statements, social security and pension information, property taxes, medical expenses paid, etc.). You must have the exact amount of the 2008 Stimulus Payment received. If you do not have the information available, you need to call 1-800-829-1040 or go to Web Site www.irs.gov.
Even though you do not have enough Itemized Deductions you can claim your Real Estate Taxes up to $1,000 (joint) or $500 single. You need to bring this information. Medical miles and Business miles need to be divided between January 1, 2008 and June 30, 2008, and July 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008. All returns for both Federal and State will be filed electronically. If a Joint Return is being prepared, both parties must sign an E-file document.

Theme for Gay 90’s “Life is Fine in 2009”

It is not too early to be thinking about Coquille’s Gay 90’s Celebration! This year the Coquille Chamber of Commerce is reinstating the Costume Contest. There will be two contests; one for the business owners and one for the general public.
The judging for the businesses will be held on Friday, June 5th and the contest for the public will be held on Saturday, June 6th, 2009. Prizes will be awarded. To enter the contest, just pick up an entry form at the Chamber office. The costume must be in the style of the Gay 90’s era. You can make your own, shop at second hand stores, or go on line for ideas. Authenticity counts. For more information, call the Chamber office at 396- 3414.

Marion Sachet
June 14, 1915 – March 22, 2009
Marion Sachet, 93, of Albany, died Sunday at his home.
Marion was born in Hartford, Arkansas to Antonio and Ester (Brandalese) Sachet. He moved to the Coquille area as a child and received his schooling there. He was in the Navy during WWII. In 1959 he moved to Scio. July 5, 1963 he married Carol Betty Schmidt and they moved to Albany, where he had lived since. After his retirement, he and his wife traveled “South” for many winters. He loved gardening, hunting, and was an avid rockhound. Most recently he enjoyed dancing and playing Bingo at the Eagles.

Marion is survived by his children, Yvonne Huson of Bend, Terry Sachet of Albany, Dennis Sachet of Phoenix, Arizona, Teresa Hart of Lynnwood, Washington, Lisa Morton of Albany, John Thomas of Albany, and Mike Thomas of Albany; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife; brothers Frank, Albert, and Joe; and sisters Mary, Isabella, Egidia, Violetta, and Elsie. Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Faith Lutheran Church in Albany . Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Quilters in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 Washington St. SW, Albany, OR 97321.

Marilyn Stockdale entered into rest March 23, 2009 after a long illness. She was 78 years old. Marilyn was born in Waterloo, Iowa to parents William and Margo Searcy on July 12, 1930.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Douglas Stockdale, sister Toni Bautista, Fort Worth, TX., daughter Linda Jordan, Portland, OR., four sons, Terry Quarles Chattanooga, TN., Steven Gayhart Hinckley, IL., Dale Gayhart Columbus, OH., Robert Gayhart Coquille, OR. Mrs. Stokdale has 14 Grandchildren and 15 Great- Grandchildren. Preceded in death by her brother, William Searcy, and three sisters, Arlene Wentworth, Carolyn Overby, and Yvonne Webb. A private service will be held at her residence. All who loved loved Marilyn will miss her beautiful spirit.

Preston Monroe Swindall
September 10, 1917 – March 20, 2009
Preston Monroe Swindall, 91, of Coquille died March 20, 2009.
A memorial service was held Friday, March 27th at 1 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Coquille. Monroe was born September 10, 1917 in a logging camp near Coquille to “Pressie” and Leona (Lane) Swindall. He was a lifelong resident of Coquille, graduating from Coquille High School in 1936. He married Mary Edna Lorenz December 30, 1937. He was employed many years by Purkey Furniture in Coquille as a carpet layer.
In later years he become self-employed, laying floor coverings and counter tops. He and his son operated the Coquille LaundroMac until the mid 1990’s. His survivors include his children and their spouses, Barbara and OJ Endicott, Michael and Cindy Swindall; five grandchildren, Allison, Michelle, Matthew, Sarah and Scott; eight great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and sister, Virginia Kyhn. Memorial donations may be made to South Coast Hospice, 1620 Thompson Road, Coos Bay, OR 97420 Arrangements are under the direction of Myrtle Grove Funeral Service, 396- 3158.

Preston Monroe Swindall, 91, of Coquille died March 20, 2009.

Norman Alvin Butts
June 28, 1935 - March 22, 2009
A funeral service was held for Norman Butts, 73, of Myrtle Point, on Saturday, March 28th, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints in Coquille. Interment was held at the Catching Creek Cemetery in Myrtle Point. Norman Alvin Butts was born June June 25, 1935, at Hillsboro, to Randolph Douglas and May Ruth (Johnson) Butts. He died March 22, 2009, in Coos Bay.
Norm left school early to help support his brothers and sisters. He started, at a very young age, working in and around logging camps from Oregon to California. He worked many positions in the timber, sawmill, heavy equipment and construction industry. Norm was the youngest worker on the Folsom Dam in California in the early 1950’s. He was married to Corinna Rogers in 1956. They had three children and were divorced in 1980. He married Gunta Bernhards on September 1, 1981, in Payson, Utah. He was active in all the many communities he lived in.
He volunteered for local fire fighting and search and rescue teams. He led groups in restoration projects of historical buildings in Oregon and Utah. He also established an annual reenactment of the Pony Express rides in Utah. He agitated to improve access for those with physical challenges. He loved reading history and scriptures and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with anyone who was interested. He will be remembered as an avid and colorful storyteller, enthralling people with his tales and his delightful sense of humor. Norm became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1974.
His faith played an important part in keeping his cheerful and positive attitude through the joys and hardships of his life. His generous heart and steadfast spirit carried him through the many adversities that came his way. He was one of a kind and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Norm is survived by his wife, Gunta of Myrtle Point; sons, Randy Butts of Cortez, Colo., Timothy Butts and Leah Morono of Talent; daughter, Sandra and Ray Ball of Eagle Point; grandchildren, Bryan Rinebolt, Leann Bennett, Cassandra Bennett, Kristy Ball, Carol Morono and Sadie Butts; great-grandchildren, Grace Ann and Lou Pierard, Cierra Steensland and Addison Ann Tappin; and brothers, Keith Butts of Placerville, Calif., and David Butts of Gold Hill. He also leaves an extended family and many loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Ruth, Phyllis and Nancy; and his brothers, Ray and Loren. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, www.christopherreeve.org. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson’s Bay Area
