Mathew Muenchrath takes his seat on the council

After Cathy Hagen declared herself ineligible to serve on the Coquille City counsel City Attorney John Trew informed the council that it was up to them to choose a replacement.

Although elections were only a few days past, the council took applications for the position. The council voted during it’s regular meeting
held Monday, January 5. They have chosen Mathew Muenchrath in a vote of 5 - 2.

During Muenchrath’s interview before the council he stated he would like to go over the City’s outdated rules and hoped to help update the master plan that is over 40 years old. Diane Courtright, who was next in line with the popular vote, after Hagen’s resignation, said she was disappointed but has always said she would live with the council’s decision and continue her volunteer work and trying to make Coquille a better place to live. “I wish Mathew Muenchrath well and will help him in any way I can.”
