The Coos County Master Gardeners TM  Association is pleased to announce that  Taryn Sheldon has been awarded a merit  scholarship of $ 2000 for the 2009-10 academic  year. Taryn is a 2007 graduate from  Marshfield High School in Coos Bay and is  currently attending Texas A&M. Her major  is Nutrition and Food Science and her ultimate  goal is to be a physician and/or  researcher into childhood obesity and hopefully  return to Coos County.

A quote from
her application in which she wrote..."Our  nation's health is below par. With continued  research and awareness, I want to save one  life at a time by making a difference in our  nation's health. I plan to pursue a career as a  physician while conducting research regarding  the connection between food science and  disease prevention"  Outside of school, Taryn is involved in  teaching disabled children to ride horses, she  wants to give back to those that are less fortunate  than she is. She is also a member of  the Texas A&M Rodeo Team.  Congratulations Taryn!  The scholarship is made possible by funds  received from the Coos County Master  Gardeners Annual Tomato Rama and Plant  sale
