			<title><![CDATA[Local volunteer program receives grant]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[The Corporation for  National and Community  Service awarded a $61,841  grant to Southwestern  Oregon Community College  to continue its 30 year sponsorship  of the Coos County  Retired Senior and  Volunteer Program (RSVP).  Coos County RSVP’s  Mission is to engage persons  55 and older in volunteer  service to meet critical  community needs and to  provide a high quality experience  that will meet the  needs of senior residents  and volunteers alike.<br/><br/>This  grant covers RSVP’s services  from April 1, 2009  through March 31, 2010.  In Coos County, 538  RSVP volunteers in 2008  contributed more than  102,000 hours, serving better  than 100 sites. Their volunteers  save Coos County  approximately $2 million  worth of services annually.  RSVP volunteers are at  work at the American Red  Cross, Senior Nutrition  sites, nursing homes, hospitals,  visitors’ centers, museums,  and in schools and  youth groups throughout  Coos County.<br/><br/>Volunteers  share what they’ve learned  from work careers and hobbies,  learn new skills, and  do the types of things they  never got a chance to do  before. RSVP Volunteers  make a positive impact on  and in our community, and  they find the personal satisfaction  of a job well done.  Members receive special  benefits for the volunteer  work that they do, such as  free excess liability & accident  insurance, free RSVP  newsletter, training and support,  and most importantly  the opportunity to enrich  personal satisfaction and  make a positive impact on  your community.  Those interested in learning  more about RSVP can  contact 541-888-7332.<br/>]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[WHAT: “Pedal Away  Polio” – Rotary Club of Bay  Area Sunrise  WHERE: Cycling Tour  from Myrtle Point to  Reedsport  WHEN: Saturday, April  11, 2009 – Starts at 8:00  AM Contact: Tom  Burdett, 404-1028, 756-  2003 or  americanpress@verizon.net.<br/><br/>WATCH OUT! There  will be bicyclers on the  highway from Myrtle Point  to Reedsport this coming  Saturday, April 11th. It  begins at 8 p.m.  The purpose is to raise  funds and awareness for the  needed eradication of Polio  in our world. Rotarians and  other cyclists will participate  to ‘Pedal Away Polio’.  So, if you are out there on  the highway between Myrtle  Point and Reedsport this  Saturday, April 11th, be  sure to give care and consideration  for the bicyclists.  If you would like to assist  at a Relay Station, donate  funds or even ride a stretch,  let us know.  “Thanks to all who have  helped this event get its  start”. 			<title><![CDATA[Hand Painted Chairs,]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[Hand Painted Chairs, Crafted by the Committee for<br/>Coquille’s Future Dog Park<br/><br/>Some of you may have  already noticed the beautifully  designed childrens  chairs being displayed in the  window at Frazier’s Bakery.  The chairs were hand painted  by members of  Coquille’s Future Dog Park  and they come in a variety  of delightful designs. There  is the ever popular “Time-  Out” chair, a chair adorned  with a “Sheriff’s Badge”  and another that sports colorfully  painted fish and  other sea creatures and  many more!<br/><br/>You really must see them  in person to appreciate the  detail and artistry of their  designs. The chairs are currently  on display at  Frazier’s Bakery in Coquille  and since there are a limited  amount available, you’ll  want to get yours first! It is  worth the trip downtown to  check them out! You won’t  be disappointed!  All proceeds will go  towards Coquille’s Future  Dog Park. 			<title><![CDATA[David Lawrence Allen December 26, 1934 - April 4, 2009]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[A memorial celebration  for Langlois resident,  David Lawrence Allen,  will be held 10 a.m.,  Saturday, April 11, 2009  at Zion Lutheran Church  in Port Orford.  David was born  December 26, 1934 in  Ionia, Michigan, the son  of Charles and Leona  Allen. He died Saturday,<br/><br/>April 4, 2009 in Bandon  at the age of 74.  He was reared and educated  in Redlands, CA  and graduated from the  University of California at  Riverside with a  Bachelor’s Degree. He  worked for General  Telephone Co., Southern  California Edison,  Washington Water &  Power and Itron, while  living in Spokane; Dayton  Power & Light and the  State Teachers’  Retirement System of  Ohio, while living in  Dayton, Ohio. Following  his retirement in 1998, he  and his wife, Llyla,  moved to Langlois where  they have lived in the log  home thy built.<br/><br/>He was a member of the  Lutheran Church in Port  Orford, enjoyed working  around his home and garden  but mainly loved his  family.  He is survived by his  wife of 54 years, Llyla;  son, Jeffrey Allen; daughter,  Lisa & Richard  Standiford; grandchildren,  Maywah & Daniel Hill;  David Standiford and  Katlin Standiford.  The family suggests  memorials be made to the  charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements are under  the arrangements of  Amling Schroeder  Funeral Service, Bandon,  Oregon.<br/>]]></description>

			<title><![CDATA[Brenda Gonzales June 26, 1948 – April 2, 2009]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[<img title="" alt="" src="http://www.oregonbeacon.com/CoquilleSentinel/content_images/2/april8/brenda.jpg" align="left" border="0" vspace="10" width="200" height="213" hspace="10"/> Graveside services for  Brenda Gonzales, 60, of  Coquille, will be held at  1:00PM on Friday, April 10,  2009 at Myrtle Crest  Memorial Gardens in  Coquille. Visitation will be  from 1pm to 5pm on  Thursday at April 9th at  Amling/Schroeder Funeral  Service – Coquille Chapel.  Brenda was born on  June 26, 1948 in Little  Rock, Arkansas to Fred and  Opal (Goodman) Cullum.  She died April 2, 2009 in  Coquille.<br/><br/>At age four the family  moved to Coquille. Brenda  attended school and graduated  from Coquille High  School in 1966. She  worked at Westbrook and  Roseburg Lumber mills for  many years. In 1994, after  she received her nursing  degree from S.W.O.C.C.,  she went to work at Bay  Area Hospital as a  Registered Nurse.  Brenda loved bowling.  She had recently taken first  place in the Women’s city  tournament at North Bend  Lanes. She also enjoyed  quilting, sewing, cooking,  raising roses, reading and  she dearly loved her family. <br/><br/>She is survived by her  son, Arnold Hill and his  wife Karen of Coquille;  Jason Barton of Eugene;  Geoffrey Barton of  Portland; sisters, June Elliott  and her husband Bill of  Clinton, AR; Ruby Schulze  and her husband Bob of  Albany; brother, Arnold  Cullum and his wife Louise  of Coos Bay; Gene Cullum  and his wife Rose of  Morgan Hill, CA; grandsons,  Loren Heckard of  Coquille; Logan Hill of  Coquille and granddaughter,  Braley Barton of Eugene.  Numerous nieces, nephews  and cousins  The family suggests  memorial contributions to  the American Heart  Association, 1425 N.E.  Irving St. Suite 100,  Portland, OR 97232  Arrangements are under  the direction of  Amling/Schroeder Funeral  Service – Coquille Chapel,  396-3846. <br/>]]></description>

			<title><![CDATA[Juanita “Nete” Rosemary Gilmore March 9, 1923 – April 4, 2009]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[ <img title="" alt="" src="http://www.oregonbeacon.com/CoquilleSentinel/content_images/2/april8/juantia.jpg" align="left" border="0" vspace="10" width="200" height="282" hspace="10"/> Graveside services for  Juanita R. “Nete” Gilmore,  86, of Coos Bay, formerly of  Coquille, will be held on  Friday, April 10, 2009 at  1:00PM in the Coquille  Pioneer Cemetery. Visitation  will be from 9am until 3PM  at the funeral home.<br/><br/>Juanita was born March 9,  1923 in Sedro Woolley, WA  the sixth child of Robert and  Bertha (Miller) Athearn. She  died April 4, 2009 in Coos  Bay.  She married Milton P.  Gilmore on December 8,  1945. In 1956 they moved  from Wickersham, WA to  Coquille.  She served her country as a  WAC in the Army Air Force  during WWII from July 17,  1944 to November 6, 1945.  Juanita was devoted to her  family and friends. She  loved the Lord, attending her  grandson’s baseball games,  playing cards, animals and  her flowers.  She lived a full and wacky  life, blessing her family and  friends with laughter and  great joy.<br/>She will be  remembered and missed.  Every life she touched will  carry fond memories as a  result of her zest for life,  incredible wit, humor and  spunk.  Juanita is survived by her  son Daniel Gilmore and his  wife Deborah of Coos Bay;  daughter, Patsy Kombol of  Coos Bay; grandchildren;  Kenneth Gilmore, Lance  Gilmore, Stacey Clement  and John Kombol; great  grandchildren; Alyssa,  Aiden, Kylie, Myranda,  Zachary and Tyree.  Numerous nieces and  nephews.  She was preceded in death  by her beloved husband,  Milton as well as her three  brothers and two sisters.  The family suggests  memorial contributions to  South Coast Hospice, 1620  Thompson Road, Coos Bay,  OR 97420  Arrangements are under the  direction of  Amling/Schroeder Funeral  Service – Coquille Chapel,  396-3846. <br/>]]></description>

			<title><![CDATA[Jessie Marie Amos November 14, 1923 – March 31, 2009]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[<img title="" alt="" src="http://www.oregonbeacon.com/CoquilleSentinel/content_images/2/april8/jessie.jpg" align="left" border="0" vspace="10" width="200" height="235" hspace="10"/>Graveside services for  Jessie Marie Amos, 85 of  Myrtle Point were held  Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at  2:00 PM at Myrtle Crest  Memorial Gardens, Rink  Creek Lane, Coquille.<br/><br/>Pastor Doug Shupe of  Myrtle Point First Christian  Church officiated.  Jessie was born to Loyd  Ether and Mary Allie  (Loveland) Deaver in  Springfield, Missouri on  November 14, 1923. She  died March 31, 2009 at her  home in Myrtle Point.  Jessie was raised in  California until 1937 and  has lived in Coos County  for the last 47 years. She  married Arlie Leroy Amos  February 5, 1941 at the  Assembly of God Church in  Myrtle Point. She worked  at Roseburg Lumber  Company in Coquille for 20  years and liked hunting and  fishing.  Her survivors include her  daughter Martha Perkins of  Myrtle Point; grandson,  Dennis Dingus and his wife  Kathy of Myrtle Point;  grandsons, Frank Dingus of  Bandon and Ron Dingus of  Myrtle Point; great-grandson,  Alex Dingus of Myrtle  Point; sister, Dorothy  Sherritt of Coos Bay and her  brother Hubert Deaver of  Sacramento, Calif.  Jessie was preceded in  death by her parents, Loyd  in 1962 and Mary in 1989;  her husband Arlie in 1994;  brothers, Loyd Junior in  1984 and Riley Deaver in  2008; sisters, Nancy Juanita  Knight in 1996 and  Rosemary Herker in 1993.  Services were under the  direction of Myrtle Grove  Funeral Service, 396-3158. <br/>]]></description>

			<title><![CDATA[John Edwin Hilding, Jr. March 1, 1937 - March 31, 2009]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[<img title="" alt="" src="http://www.oregonbeacon.com/CoquilleSentinel/content_images/2/april8/john.jpg" align="left" border="0" vspace="10" width="200" height="285" hspace="10"/>John Edwin Hilding, 72,  of Coquille, was born in  Raymond, Washington to  John Sr. and Betty Hilding,  and passed away in Coos  Bay, Oregon.  While John lived in  Washington and Portland,  Oregon for a while, he spent  most of his time as a Coos  County resident.<br/><br/>John  attended Marshfield High  during which time he met  and fell in love with  Jacqueline Crawford  (Jackie). John and Jackie  Crawford were married on  May 2, 1956 and later started  their family to include  four children. John was a  second generation longshoreman  and worked in the  Port of Coos Bay until his  retirement.  John, who had a love of  woodworking, was a very  passionate car enthusiast,  and during his lifetime  owned or restored an  immense variety of vehicles  with his sons. John was also  a cat lover and even gave in  to an occasional cat hopping  up on one of his cars.  John had beautiful blue  eyes that sparkled with  warmth, kindness and  humor.<br/><br/>All of those who met  him remarked about how  kind and sweet he was and  how lucky we were to share  his life with him. John was  blessed with many grandchildren,  nieces, and  nephews who loved him  dearly. John was very proud  of their accomplishments  and enjoyed going to sporting  and other events to  watch his grandchildren and  loved taking them out to  dinner.  John is survived by his  son, Jerry and Juanita  Hilding of Coquille; daughter,  Jena Siegrist of Reno,  Nevada; and youngest son,  Joe and Breena Hilding of  Coquille; many grandchildren;  several sister and  brother-in-laws; and his cat  Susie. <br/>]]></description>
