Coquille Emblem Club donates towards Elks Christmas baskets

Lois Cunningham of the Coquille Emblem Club #266 presents a check in the amount of
$967 to John Goodwin of the Coquille Elks Club which was used to purchase toys for
this years Elks Christmas Baskets. The proceeds came from the Elks Turkey Bingo.

Coquille Eagles #2195 Ladies Auxiliary donates food

The Coquille Eagles #2195 Ladies Auxiliary donated 51 lbs of food and
$938 in cash to the Coquille Valley Elk’s Lodge for their Christmas Basket
Project.
The Eagles hold Sunday Auxiliary Bingo (OPEN TO THE PUBLIC) with
the proceeds going to the Elks Christmas Baskets and the month or so
before the project they start collecting food. They are now starting to
play for next year’s donation. A few of the Eagles Auxiliary ladies are pictured
above. A great big THANK YOU to everyone - those who worked and
those who played.

Arrest on Cherry Creek

On December 25th at about 12:41 p.m. a Sheriff’s Sergeant was dispatched to the Cherry Creek area northeast of Coquille to the report of a disturbance involving a firearm. A female from the residence reported being threatened and shots had been fired in an unknown direction. At the scene, it was determined that a guest that stayed in an R.V. on the property had been locked out of the residence by the homeowner and shots had been fired. Arrested without incident was Steven J. Nicholson, age 43, of Coquille. Mr. Nicholson was transported to the Coos County Jail where he was lodged on a Probation Violation, Menacing and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. A .357 Magnum was seized during the incident.

Red Devils drop one to the Pirates

The 3-4 Coquille Red Devils took on the 7-4 Phoenix Pirates on Monday, December 22, and went down in defeat to a tough team 48-40. This was a game in which Coach Cumberland got all of the players involved at some point in the game in their final preleague warm up prior to 3A Sunset Conference Boys Basketball games begin on December 30th. Of the ten players on the team, which all saw some playing time, 7 of them put up points in this total team effort. Senior Daniel Muntifering and sophomore Joe Harris led the team with 9 each. Lady Devils fall to Phoenix Pirates

On Monday, December 22, the Coquille Lady Devils, who are 5-2, loss 44-34 to the Phoenix Pirates, who are 8-1, in the 4A Skyline Conference. Though it was a defeat, the goal for pre-league games is to prepare the teams for the 3A Sunset Conference Girls Basketball League play which starts on December 30th, against the Cascade Christian Challengers at Cascade Christian High School near Medford. Coquille Falling Snow Scholastic Chess Tournament

Falling snow had cancelled several days of school but it was falling rain during the Coquille Falling Snow Scholastic Chess Tournament held Saturday, December 20th.

Forty two dedicated chess players spent their first day of Winter Break competing for grade level trophies and improving their chess skills during the Coquille High School day long event. Read More
