It's strange what I remember sometimes. For example, I remember that
the daffodils and iris we see in spring along roadsides throughout
Oregon were due to a campaign, and after hours of vain research, and
fruitless inquiries, I was directed to 'Highway Beautification'. What I
remember must have taken place after this act became law on October 22,
1965. I was a toddler. I guess I'm not surprised that no one else
could remember either, because a law to create beauty must not be on
our priority list at times.

I'm experiencing writer's block this week. So, I'm going to tell you
about my Bigfoot, no, Sasquatch head that I'm making (from this point
on, I'm using this more learned name for Bigfoot.) And why, would I
want to make my very own Sasquatch head? One of my interests is
photography. I will use the "head" for illustrating, articles, books
and my website. The head began with crumpled newspaper, flour and
water, draped over a large salad bowl; and lots of pressing, pinning,
painting, gluing, until finally it came to look like Sasquatch.

Despite good effort, Rep. Peter DeFazio’s (D-OR) bill seeking to reauthorize the Secure Rural Schools
or “county payments” program did not pass. Secure Rural Schools will
expire at the end of this month and DeFazio believes our rural counties
will be thrown into chaos. The NY Times reports
that the national average $4 per gallon price of gas has hit rural
America the hardest closing small stores, farms and restaurants and
raising unemployment. Gas accounts for up to 21% of monthly living
expense in rural counties compared to 2.2% in urban areas.
